Making (and Keeping) Your New Year’s Fitness Resolution

It’s the time of the year when we hop on the bandwagon to make extremely ambitious New Year’s Fitness Resolutions. Even though we genuinely want to embrace the seemingly cliché ‘New Year, New Me’, the Post-Holiday Blues will creep up on us after a while.
Regardless of not being able to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves this time last year, resolution-setting is still important to categorise our thoughts and prioritize things that are important to us, such us our health and wellness. Don’t feel guilty about ditching your New Year’s Resolution this year. Here are some tips on how you should make (and keep) your New Year’s Fitness Resolution in 2021!
1. Get an accountable fitness buddy
Exercising alone may get boring sometimes. With a fitness buddy, it is definitely motivating to have someone motivating and burning those calories with you. A little friendly competition can push you out of your comfort zone, and it is a good way to spend quality time with your loved one too. This keeps you accountable to your fitness plans and it will also make working out a lot more fun!
To get you started with your workout kaki, you can book a buddy trial with one of our Personal Trainers. It is still likely for you to skip a gym session if your workout buddy is not in the mood as well. With a Personal Trainer, it is hard to back out after you have committed to a workout session.
2. Set monthly checkpoints to help you track your progress
Small fitness goals each month will definitely help you to stay on track. This also allows you to celebrate mini successes as you work your way towards the main New Year Fitness Goal you set for yourself. Having specific and measurable goals helps you to create a momentum such that it will be less likely for you to give up on your New Year Resolution halfway through the year!
3. Treat yourself!
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Reward yourself with something after you’ve achieved those milestones you set for yourself once in a while. You’ve earned it! However, don’t forget to choose something that will not undo your hard work - a beach day, a relaxing massage, a weekend getaway. Having something to look forward to will definitely help you to stay consistent and committed to your end goal.
