Happy Chinese New Year! May the Year of the Rabbit be very huat and healthy for everyone! As much as we love family gatherings during the New Year, with visitings come the endless snacks that hosts will provide to us. It is easy for us to lose track of the snacks that we eat throughout the days of visiting!

With that, here are the calorie count of some common Chinese New Year snacks! But don't worry, we are not here to scare you but just to remind you to eat in moderation!

Context wise, it actually takes 15 minutes of running on the treadmill to burn off 100 calories.

So imagine how long you would actually need to burn off all the calories of all the snacks!

However, not all hope is lost! We understand how hard it is to stay away from all these snacks, especially since Chinese New Year only happens once a year. So here are some tips and habits that you can try to inculcate during your CNY visitings this year, so that you are still on track towards your New Year's Resolutions!

Tip 1: Try Not To Visit When You're Hungry!

Logically, you can't snack if you are not hungry! One suggestion is to have a proper meal before heading for visitations at your relatives or friends place. By being full before heading over, it would definitely prevent any snacking habits. To keep yourself full for a longer period of time, do have some nuts and fruits which contain fibre, which also maintains a healthy digestive system!

Tip 2: Eat Fresh Food Over Processed Food

We all know how much everyone loves having Steamboat during CNY meals, as it definitely bring about much convenience to the host in terms of preparations! However, did you know that common processed food that we consume during steamboats such as fishballs, sausages, mock crabmeat contain minimal nutrients as compared to fresh food? Try swopping out some of the processed meat and instant noodles with fresh meat and carbohydrates instead!

Tip 3: Plan Your Exercise Routine Beforehand

This tip does not only apply to the Chinese New Year period but throughout the entire year! Treat your exercise routine like an important task that you have to complete throughout the week or year. Start small by inputting it into your calendar and you would definitely be on track to hit your New Year's Resolutions! During your visitations this CNY, plan ahead with your family to clock in simple exercises! For example, you may choose to alight 1-2 stops early just to clock in the extra steps. Just 30 minutes of walking has several health benefits like improving your immune system, which will definitely help with burning off the calories with all the snacking!

Tip 4: Stay Hydrated!

It is common for individuals to mistake thirst for hunger! Before reaching out for a snack, reach out for a glass of water first. If you are no longer hungry after that glass of water, it just means that you are thirsty! It is also important to drink water instead of the carbonated sweet drinks that many hosts would like to offer during your visits. By consuming water, it will definitely help with your calorie intake as water contains zero calories! It also aids in flushing out all the toxins and waste in your body!
